What Makes Period Underwear Work? The Secret’s in the Layers May 24, 2025
As period underwear gains popularity among eco-conscious consumers and sustainable fashion brands, many still wonder: What makes period panties truly effective? The secret lies not just in the surface material, but in the engineering of absorbent layers and thoughtful fabric choices that work together to deliver leakproof, breathable, and quick-drying performance.   Whether you're a lingerie startup or an established brand expanding into menstrual care, understanding the inner structure of period underwear can help you create a product that meets both performance and comfort expectations.   The Multi-Layer Design That Powers Absorbency Unlike regular underwear, period panties feature a multi-layer absorbent core that replaces or supplements disposable menstrual products. A well-constructed pair typically includes:   Top Layer (Moisture-Wicking) – Pulls fluid away from the skin for a dry, comfortable feel. Middle Layer (Absorbent Core) – Traps and holds menstrual fluid securely, often using super-absorbent or natural fibers. Barrier Layer (Leakproof Shield) – A hidden waterproof membrane prevents leaks from passing through. Outer Layer (Support Fabric) – Breathable, stretchy fabric that keeps the structure in shape.   This 4-layer system ensures maximum comfort while protecting against leakage during light to moderate flow days—making it suitable for daytime wear, sleep, and travel.   Why the Absorbent Layer Is the Core of Performance Among all components, the absorbent layer is the true hero of period underwear. It's where absorption speed, capacity, and moisture retention come together. Brands often use natural fibers like organic cotton, or technical blends like bamboo charcoal or microfiber to achieve:   Fast absorption – Fluid is quickly drawn in to prevent pooling. Odor control – Some materials have natural antimicrobial properties. Dry feel – Fluid stays locked in the core, away from skin contact.   A high-quality absorbent layer can hold 10–20ml of fluid, making it suitable for medium flow. Combined with moisture-wicking and breathable layers, it delivers a quick-dry and comfortable experience.    How Fabric Selection Influences Performance and Sustainability Fabric is not just about touch—it impacts functionality, durability, and brand positioning. Here’s a breakdown of commonly used and customizable options:   Organic Cotton – Gentle on skin, biodegradable, and breathable. Bamboo Fiber – Soft, antibacterial, and excellent at moisture-wicking. Recycled Polyester or Nylon – Eco-friendly with good stretch and structure retention. Mesh or Micromodal – Lightweight, enhances airflow, often used in the outer structure.   To ensure safety and quality, materials should meet OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, making them suitable for intimate contact.   In addition to fabric choices and absorbent core technology, modern period underwear is also available in different absorbency levels to meet a variety of needs. Light flow style are designed for spotting or as backup protection for menstrual cups or tampons. Medium flow options offer reliable daily protection for most days of the cycle, while heavy flow or overnight styles feature wider coverage and higher-capacity cores to prevent leaks during sleep or on heavier days. Choosing the right absorbency level ensures both comfort and peace of mind—and allows brands to cater to diverse customers with different period experiences.   As consumers become more conscious of comfort, sustainability, and performance during their periods, high-quality period underwear is quickly becoming a preferred choice. Understanding the materials, the role of absorbent layers, and how different absorbency levels work allows brands and retailers to offer thoughtful, effective solutions that meet real needs. Whether you're sourcing for your next collection or looking to expand your product line, period underwear is not only a functional innovation—it's a step toward modern, body-positive menstrual care.   Looking for custom desige your Menstural products or starting a wholesale business? • A Step-by-Step Guide to Custom Lingerie Production | From Design to Manufacturing
A Step-by-Step Guide to Custom Lingerie Production | From Design to Manufacturing May 17, 2025
As the global lingerie market continues to evolve toward personalization and niche branding, more and more fashion labels are seeking exclusive, custom-designed pieces to differentiate themselves from competitors. At our factory, with over a decade of experience in OEM/ODM production, we provide a comprehensive service that covers every stage of lingerie development — from design interpretation to sourcing, sampling, and bulk manufacturing. Understanding the full process behind custom development helps brands plan better timelines, allocate budgets efficiently, and make informed decisions between using stock styles or investing in exclusive pieces. This article outlines the typical steps involved in custom production and clarifies the key differences between custom-made and ready-to-ship stock styles. Our currently clients typically initiate development in one of three ways: The first is by submitting a full tech pack or design document, including flat sketches, material specifications, construction instructions, and size charts.  The second is by sending us a physical reference sample, which we can adapt or enhance for better fit, function, or cost-effectiveness.  The third is by sharing inspirational images or trend directions, in which case our development team can support the creative process from concept to first prototype.   Material selection plays a key role in both comfort and product appeal. We work closely with trusted fabric suppliers to offer a wide range of options, including seamless knits, lightweight mesh, lace, ribbed cotton, and certified organic or recycled materials. Upon request, we can provide materials with Oeko-Tex, GOTS, or GRS certifications. In addition, trims such as straps, elastics, hooks, padding, labels, care tags, and hang tags can all be customized with your brand logo or color specifications. Once the design is approved, we move into the pattern making and sample development phase. Our pattern makers will create technical paper patterns based on your design and grading requirements, and our sample team will sew the initial prototype. Where necessary, we also conduct fit testing and make structural improvements. Sampling typically takes 7 to 15 days, depending on the complexity and the number of styles.   Custom production differs from ready to ship terms of minimum order quantities (MOQ), lead time, and development investment. A typical custom order requires an MOQ up to 3000 units per style per color, with a production lead time of 30 to 40 days. We can optimize scheduling based on current capacity if the client has tight deadlines. For smaller brands or product launches, we also offer low-MOQ stock items, starting from just 500 units per style, available for private label and fast delivery or 100pcs unit per style without customization, it has some more flexible options we can negotiate further.   In-stock products are ideal for testing the market quickly and minimizing upfront risk. Custom items, however, allow you to fully control branding, style, and positioning. Many clients choose to use a combination strategy — launching with stock for speed, and developing custom styles once brand traction is established.   Our factory spans over 20,000 square meters, housing more than 500 skilled workers and an R&D center dedicated to product development and sampling. With an annual output capacity of over 30 million pieces, we’ve worked with numerous international brands and export to markets in Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. We are certified by ISO9001, BSCI, Oeko-Tex, and GRS, ensuring compliance with global quality and sustainability standards.   Whether you need seamless basics, lace lingerie sets, wireless bras, shapewear, or performance undergarments, our team is ready to support your product development goals with expertise, flexibility, and fast turnaround times.   If you're seeking a trusted partner to bring your ideas to life, we welcome you to contact us for development consultation, pricing, and sampling.
